Who Is Sue Davis and Why Is She Smiling? Are you a "professional"? A machine quilter? A finish quilter? In the 10+ years that I have been machine quilting for others, I have taken classes personally from Marilyn Badger, Karen McTavish, Sherry Rogers-Harrison, Darlene Epps and Niclole Webb. I consider these LA quilters to be professionals and I have learned at their elbow, so YES! I am a professional LA Quilter. Are you a long arm, or long-arm or longarm quilter?Whatever you want to call my profession—Long arm, Long-Arm, Longarm, Longarmer, LAQ'er—Just make sure you call me in time to eat. I'm originally from Texas and we love to eat!Are you a brand new quilting business, perhaps the first in town?I have 10+ years working for other quilters, as a quilt shop owner, guild member, and as a professional longarm machine quilter.Presently, Lebanon, Oregon has one other professional machine quilting business and one quilt shop that also does machine quilting. |
I was owner of Strawberry Patches Quilt ShopA berry fine shop for the quilterA few years ago, I was a quilt shop owner as well as a machine quilter. Strawberry Patches Quilt Shop was a warm and friendly quilt shop on Main Street in downtown Lebanon, Oregon. The "Patch" was dedicated to the art of quilting. It provided both novice and experienced quilters with fun projects and fabric. I worked in the shop almost every day for ___ years. Helping quilters, teaching classes and having lots of fun. Then in 2004 family needs told me to close the Patch and concentrate on being a professional longarm quilter. Sometimes being a quilt shop owner is very hard work, but mostly there was a lot of fun helping quilters build their fabric stashes and create many UFO's. 'Course many actually made many, very nice quilts. It was fun while it lasted. Have you expanded your quilting product or service offerings?Constantly - that is why I have paid big bucks for classes, template sets, books and practice, practice, practice.Have you contributed quilts to a noteworthy cause?Charity quilts for guild, nursing homes, Boys and Girls Club auctions, churches and just about anyone who asks.Do you use unusual fabrics to make your quilts? No, I'm pretty conventional with my own quilts, but I have received some dandies from others!Have you ever sold a quilt to a celebrity? This is a silly question! My answer applies to you, my customers, "No way Jose. I only part with my quilts to people I love and those who love me. And they are the stars and celebrities in my life."
